Not (yet) worth a paid upgrade
While the app was due for a visual design overhaul (to align with iOS 7 & 8), that doesnt really warrant a paid upgrade with no real additional functionality.
But when I discovered a companion app for my Pebble smartwatch that you can use for directions and "keep your iPhone in the pocket while walking or driving" I ponied up.
Boy, was I disappointed to find that these directions consist of - literally - just the direction (and distance - in a straight line).
There is no real-life use case where that information can be used as a substitute for driving directions, allowing you to keep your phone in your pocket. Unless your car can fly, you probably shouldnt just aim toward a restaurant and floor it. Or you and the restaurant are in the middle of an open field.
Even walking its questionable if you can use the direction and as-the-crow-flies distance to get to a destination.
So its a bit perplexing that they would market this as a way to navigate while keeping your phone in your pocket. Its actually misleading. Hopefully, its just version 1.0 of this feature and they plan on displaying actual, navigable directions in the near future.
Definitely dont upgrade just for the integration with Pebble. Its cute, but currently fairly useless.
